Film Noir On Prezi

Costume & Prop List For "Shakilla"

Whole Film Storyboard

Rejected Storyboard

The reason we rejected this storyboard is it lacked originality, as many thrillers have a similar storyline, where revenge is a main theme and a femme fatale was an obvious flaw.

Film Treatment

The title of our film is called Shakilla, named after the killer 'Shakeel Mirza'

Due to our questionnaire our film has targeted our genre to be action-thriller. This includes murder, chase sequences and some violence. Our story is set in the streets of Whitton. This makes our thriller even scarier as the usual thriller locations they are normally shot in isolated areas, we however wanted to be original.

What happens in the opening sequence?
In the opening sequence of our action-thriller Wayne (Simran Grewal) leaves a house party. After leaving the house he see's a strange man just standing in the middle of road. Wayne looks straight at Tyga (Shakeel Mirza). Tyga seems to have a feud against Sim, this is where the thriller begins, Wayne quickly throws a punch at Tyga and makes a run for it. He runs through the alleys of Whitton. Some Sci-fi conventions where added due to special effects, Drakes (Aaron Virdi) are the clones that have been added.  This is where the chase sequence begins. Wayne comes to a dead end, this is where the confrontation begins. Wayne manages to run backwards but suddenly he gets run over by Tyga. Tyga unwinds his window to confirm the kill with an evil grin on his face. After seeing this he drives off.

Themes
Revenge-  Tyga (the antagonist) has made a list of the people that ruined his acting career, he is going to kill them one by one. Wayne is top on his list and is the first victim.
Murder - A lot of murder will be in the opening sequence, hence the title 'Shakilla'. The first murder will occur in the opening sequence where 'Sim' is ran over.
Sci-fi - The use of clones adds a bit of sci-fi to the thriller. Shakeel knows he cannot attempt all these murders by himself, so he finds a way to clone humans!
Obsession - Shakeel seems to have an obsession to kill all the people that ruined his career and thrives on murder.

The Characters

Simran Grewal - The victim who exits the house party and gets killed at the end

Shakeel Mirza - the killer (Antagonist) who runs over Sim

Aaron Virdi - The killer clones, who attempt to find and kill Sim.

Aysha Rajpoot – Make up artist, Camera Girl, Part director.

The setting - The streets of whitton, on a quite block. This adds a twist to the film as the area is relatively quiet and the audience do not expect the murder to happen.

Prelimary Task Final

Camera Movement

MovementExplanationWhen would you use it?
DollyThe camera is mounted on a cart which travels along tracks for a very smooth movement. Also known as a tracking shot or trucking shot.To involve viewers and show something from all angles.
Dolly zoomA technique in which the camera moves closer or further from the subject while simultaneously adjusting the zoom angle to keep the subject the same size in the frame. To portray sudden realisation or reaction to a dramatic event.
PanHorizontal movement, left and right. To follow action or movement, or even a character to represent a certain theme.
Pedestal (ped)Moving the camera position vertically with respect to the subject. To follow something smoothly and combine with other shots to create an effective scene.
TiltVertical movement of the camera angle, i.e. pointing the camera up and down ( as opposed to moving the whole camera up and down)To show the size of something in relation to a character or another object.
TrackRoughly synonymous with the dolly shot, but often defined more specifically as movement which stays a constant distance from the action, especially side-to-side movement. To make viewers feel part of the action- active viewers instead of static observers.
ZoomTechnically this isn’t a camera move, but a change in the lens focal length with gives the illusion of moving the camera closer or further away.To give extreme detail on something/someone and to create a mood depending on the speed of the zoom.

Prilimary Task

Our Prilimary Task aim was to which has to involve a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair starting a conversation with the shot reverse shot. We have successful achieved this by many things such  editing, cutting and camera angles. I will be making my video with Shakeel, Aaron & Simran.

Result Charts For Questionnaire

In this chart when I took my questionnaire, the results suggested that the main age range were 16 to 21. This will effect my film as now most of my following questions will reflect the specific age of 16 to 21s.

Due to the age rating demand was 18, I can practically put anything in my actual film, this is an advantage as I do not need to restrict my work to a specific level. I now need to research the main conventions of an 18 movie style.

When my questionnaire was answered the main genre that was selected was Thrillers. This now will be my genre for my Final Piece. I will now research the main conventions for a Thriller opening.

I asked this question so I know my target audience well, this will make it certain that they will watch my film within a week.

In this question due to the high demand in the category of "all",  now there will be a lot of Mis en scene, this is also useful as now I can research other conventions to put in my thriller opening.

This question suggests what my ideal target gender audience will be, as I will be making a thriller  it will be aimed at boys.
